NEW: Ulysse Nardin Freak X-OPS

The success of Ulysse Nardin’s modern Freak incarnations continues, with the new X-OPS, based on the Freak X. It’s a far cry from the original ground-breaking Freak, but the expanded variations on the original theme have proven popular for being more price accessible than the original form/ model positioning, more size-friendly for more people, and the use of newer lighter materials which lend themselves to sporty pieces that are more daily wearers than the earlier models. All whilst retaining attributes of what makes a Freak, a Freak, although the introduction of a crown courtesy of the Freak X may be a debatable point.

The latest iteration on the Freak X, the OPS edition features a 43mm black DLC-treated titanium case which features the use of a proprietary carbon fibre and khaki-coloured epoxy resin composite. The case is water resistant to 50m.

Its dial is black, with indices and bridges using khaki and with Super-LumiNova. The movement’s flying flying carrousel rotates on its own axis and is suspended by a bridge that acts as the minute hand; a second bridge serves as the hour hand.

The movement is, of course, the automatic in-house UN-230 which beats at 21,600 VPH and has a power reserve of 72 hours. Its oversized oscillator, balance wheel, escapement wheel, balance spring & anchor are all in silicon.

Coming on a matching khaki fabric strap or a black fabric strap (made from recycled fishing net), the new Freak X-OPS has an RRP of CHF 32,000.
